Re: Setting The Style For Unstyled Paragraphs
Hi Simon, I don't know if this is what fits your case, but if I have an imported file in which I'm going to have to style everything, what I do is immediately select all and apply my body style. Only after that do I go down changing the headings and subheadings and anything else that needs it to wha...

Re: Convert Endnotes to Footnote
Jenny, I have just checked and my footnotes exported by Scrivener are recognised as footnotes by NWP and not treated as endnotes. It turns out I don't have a footnote style defined in the Nisus New File, either, though I have done so in other documents and templates, so it is using the default footn...

Re: Convert Endnotes to Footnote
Suddenly, Nisus is making my footnotes from Scrivener into endnotes. I've tried to convert them as explained in the Help Document but I don't seem to have the green button in my status bar that does the conversion. I'm using version 1.3.1 Can someone help, please? A: Why is Nisus not recognising fo...

Re: Nice to be back
The special characters/dingbats/zapf.. I thought I had lost but no, these work well provided I select the font in the font menu before pasting from the Special characters menu. Actually, throughout the system, if you open up the "Font Variation" pane at the bottom of the Characters panel,...

Re: Interface Update
I admit I would ask the opposite: less and less colorful icons. Less color means less distractions from text. At least we can agree that an update of the icons is needed?! :) On the other hand, for me, what has been the deal-breaker for me with Mariner Write — and Mariner Calc, which I used even mo...

Re: Nisus vs Pages
Sounds like an interesting combo - can you provide an example of, how you use it in this way? I am a scientist, writing scientific papers, and those aren't necessarily linear, at least not in the writing process. Would I be able to benefit from this combo, even though I usually don't exceed 20 page...

Re: Nisus vs Pages
Nisus is great - the nearest to Word IMHO. Mellel, Scrivener and the others are somewhat specialist and require a lot of work to fit to your needs While I agree with you that Nisus is great, and am a virtually totally Microsoft-free Zone, and found Mellel's interface hard work — though my reasons f...

Re: missing custom document icons with NWE 3.3.1
What none of you have said is what version of OS-X you are using, or whether on Intel or PPC. Could that be at issue here?
Mark
Edit: On closer inspection it's one of you and you did say 10.6 on PPC ... sorry!

Geoff, you need the shift key, in which case you just get a 'bong' for shortcut-not-set. If you don't have the shift key down, you're typing Cmd-, which is the shortcut for preferences.

Re: Thesaurus doesn't appear in Snow Leopard
Yeah ... On my MBP it's ticked but nothing to do with the thesaurus appears in the services menu or on the contextual menu; on my MBA, running identical system 10.6.1, same version of NWP, same version of thesaurus, it works as expected. Both have been rebooted since the various installations, the n...

Re: Nisus Writer Pro 1.3.1 public beta - Snow Leopard compatible
Intriguing ... I have two computers, a Rev 1 MacBook Pro 17" and a Rev 1 MacBook Air. Both are running 10.6.1. On the MBA the Thesaurus works, on the MBP it doesn't, and yet, as far as I can see, the two services set-ups are identical. Fortunately, I don't need it much, and it is there in the p...

Re: two texts side by side in two columns
@Mark I have also converted to Scrivener for serious writing projects, finishing up in NWP. For taking fieldnotes, though, Scrivener is overkill & NWP wins the day. I would never question the suggestion that there are purposes for which Scrivener is overkill, or for which it is not suitable, an...

Re: NW PRO won't open WORD 04 DOCs
My colleague in UK unfortunately must use Windows. He has been sending DOCs to me, which I have opened in the past. Currently, they don't open. Now he is saving in RTF, and they open. If I open his RTF saved file, then save it in WORD, then it will open in NW PRO. Is there a translator missing for ...

Re: two texts side by side in two columns
I don't like commenting on other software on this forum, but I do the same as you do, Pat, or rather I spend a lot of time editing translations, where I need the original text and the translated text visible at the same time and my solution is simple. Use Scrivener ... http://www.literatureandlatte....

Yes, on a brief trial here, all seems well again with .doc import.
