Re: Spelling checker won't forget a word

Oh, I see now. I misunderstood your request. But I think Philip is right. OSX main spelling dictionary must be buried somewhere and not in a human-readable form. I searched for "spell" in OSX.6.8 and only found a few files in appkit that are too small to be dictionaries. I searched for spe...

Re: Soft hyphen doesn't show

By chance I found just now an example for poor German hyphenation: k-einen k-eineswegs Perhaps also the following is wrong (?; just a suspicion) k-einer k-eine k-einerlei k-ein k-einem k-einesfalls As I said elsewhere, NWP need to set a hyphenation threshold. Two letters would prevent such errors. ...

Re: Spelling checker won't forget a word

Spelling dictionaries are text-only files. So you can open and save it using TextWrangler or any other text editor. Maybe TW won't open it on double-click, though. Open TextWrangler first and then drag the dictionary on its icon on the dock.

Re: Spelling checker won't forget a word

"Forget Spelling"? Huh? I haven’t got "Forget Spelling" in NWP on OS x.6.8 -- AND I WANT IT!!! Cheers, geoff You have it. Only you don’t see it. Here it is: Screenshot 2014-01-10 at 8.29.37 PM.jpg Of course, you have to first save a word in a customized dictionary by right-click...

Re: Spelling checker won't forget a word

Spelling dictionaries can be in two places: Your-HD/Library/Spelling or ~/Library/Spelling , where ~ is your home folder. If you have duplicates you can merge them into one. Just open them as text (in Nwp go to File>Open… , then check Ignore Rich Text Commands ) and copy/paste the content. You'd bet...

Re: Thank you

Two weeks ago I published a book on Amazon through CreateSpace. It’s 186 pages and forty-five chapters long, with dozens of floating images, with or without caption, and tables. I did it all in .rtfd. Converting the book into black and white was very easy: I just opened the package and converted all...

Re: Problem on Kindle conversion

Kindlegen has no GUI. It requires Console. Kindle Previewer both converts the file and shows what it looks like in any Kindle device.

Re: Problem on Kindle conversion

First of all, I suggest starting from a .epub file. Use NWP to convert whatever document into epub. Epub and mobi files are very similar inside. To be true, I never understood the difference. Duplicate the epub and open it with Sigil. Go to the Book Browser pane on the left and double-click on a cha...

Re: A Question About Kerning: TWIPS

Hi, Geoff

Is it legal to say Christmas? I thought it was replaced by the more politically correct Dies Solis Invicti. We’re all Romans now.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Re: Problem on Kindle conversion

Thanks, Henry. I already have the Kindle App for Mac on my computer. Ironically, the conversion looked all right on that, and it looked all right on the online previewer as well. It was only on my Kindle that the text was microscopic. That’s because a computer screen’s resolution is generally lower...

Re: Problem on Kindle conversion

I don’t think it has to do with your Kindle. A digital device is either fully functioning or downright broken. As I said, NWP converts font sizes into pixels from typographical points. If your text is, e.g., 12 points, it will be converted into 12 pixels. This is pretty small for a Kindle reader. Co...

Gotcha! I never used auto-update. And I'm on 10.6. So count me out. :D

Re: all my images are gone

Have you tried opening the rtfd? In the finder, right-click on the file icon and select Show Package Contents. You should see all your image files there. If not, they are gone and irretrievable.

Greetings, Henry.

Re: Problem on Kindle conversion

Hello, DavidW I think the problem with your font is that its size is measured in pixels. 12 px, for example, is too small for reading on a kindle. I would use ems instead, 1 em being the normal size, for example the size of the main text in a novel. All other sizes are relative. For example, if you ...
