Re: Future viability of Nisus
Funny. I'm in a use case where Nisus works very well for me, much much better than Word and Pages: Law. Here's the thing: I write a lot of briefs; and court requirements are changing to require PDF's. Enhanced PDF's, to be exact. And Word for Mac utterly fails in at least two areas: 1) PDF links and...

Re: Linked vs. embedded images; auto embedding of linked ima
What I think NisusUser is looking for is one of the major features of the classic Mac OS that never made it to OS X: publish and subscribe. Nisus has recreated something like that with "link back", unfortunately it never really caught on and I think GateKeeper and the Sandbox have oblitera...

Re: "Nisus" isn't part of the dictionary by default
I actually saw Nisus labeled as misspelled in here, the forum (using Safari's text field, of course)... which I kind of expected. But it was when I saw "Nisus" labeled as a misspelled word in Nisus Writer itself it sort of raised my eyebrow. Just a blank document. I was trying out Maverick...

"Nisus" isn't part of the dictionary by default
I know Nisus uses the standard OS X dictionary, but its a bit odd that the word Nisus isn't added to the dictionary automatically. Can you do that? I know it is fairly easy to add it to the dictionary, but still--the product shouldn't be labeled as misspelled out of the box. Or is this harder than I...

Re: Curious--why 2 menu items for document properties?
Hmm. That redact macro slimes the entire text? Yes, I'm in particular thinking of stuff in a legal context. I believe some poor large law firm secretary ended up costing her firm millions due to some Word document properties that were inadvertently provided during discovery. It could have easily bee...

Re: Selecting styles by keyboard
Well, I like both ideas, personally. Style application is so important that using the style palette would be nice, as it shows a bit of a preview of what the style actually does; whereas the submenu is just the name (and is cluttered with a lot of the auto styles, like Heading 9--very seldom used, f...

Curious--why 2 menu items for document properties?
As the subject line says, why are there three separate menu items to access document properties? Theres File:Properties ; there is Insert->Document Property-> Edit Property and another command to edit a Custom Property which leads to panel 2 of the Property dialog box. Why not consolidate them all d...

Thanks for the help and advise, phspaelti!
Does anyone know the keyboard command for contextual menus? The manual doesn't have it, unless I missed it.

Re: Selecting styles by keyboard
Hmm. I think I wasn't quite clear. In Word, you can hit the shortcut (Command option S, I believe, on mac--windows it's control shift s) and it puts keyboard focus into the style list. When you type, it filters the style list based on your typing. And it does it either full word (yes, you can type &...

Selecting styles by keyboard
So Word has a nifty shortcut-- I think it's command option s or something-- wherein you can hit the shortcut key and immediately type, and it selects a style based on your text. Hit return or enter, and it applies the style. This enables mouse less style management. Typically you can name your style...

Re: What is Nisus doing when it is "typesetting text"?
I would assume that Nisus is doing the entire typesetting process at once, before allowing the user to interact with the document. Other programs do it in the background. You can see this if you open a word document that's huge, and immediately drag the slider bar to like page 600 or so--it takes so...

Re: Does NWP have alignment guides? ...Booklet printing?
I'm pretty sure NWP does not have alignment guides. You could probably do something with tables with invisible lines, though. A kludge, I agree. As far as a booklet: do you mean like double sided printing? Double facing pages, with the concept of a right page and a left page? If so, you want to look...

Re: Can you build a table of authorities with Nisus Writer?
Sorry for the delay in responding. Yes, it's a separate document. You make a two column table on the second page; it's sort of a database, really, that we are creating. So, table has something like this: Cell 1 Cell 2 Smith v. Jones Cases:Smith v. Jones, 123 P.2d 345 (Utah 1996) _________ (next cell...

Re: Can you build a table of authorities with Nisus Writer?
So I have experimented and it turns out you CAN do a Table of Authorities with Nisus; in fact it might be easier than in Word. (Cue shock). Well, I should qualify that a bit.... easier in some ways, but slightly harder in others. Here's how, for future reference. The trick lies in subindexes. Create...

Re: Can you build a table of authorities with Nisus Writer?
A table of authorities technically speaking IS an index; an index of citations to be specific. Let's say you are writing your legal document and you refer to the case Smith v. Jones on four different pages. You need to list Smith v. Jones in the Cases section of your Table of Authorities (there's se...
