Re: Documents how to add and delete pages ?
Turn on "Show Invisibles" in the View menu, and you will see that that empty page in fact contains at least one blank line ... you will see the end-of-paragraph mark(s). Just place your cursor immediately before the last of these and press the delete key the number of times until it goes b...

Re: Using umlauts with Chinese
Thank you, xiamenese, that solves my problem perfectly. I wouldn't have thought to try 'v' otherwise. :) (Other than that, though, I haven't had any problems.) Glad to have helped. But I do seriously recommend you give QIM a try ... you can use it for free, but paying the USD20 brings you benefits ...

Re: Using umlauts with Chinese
Standard pinyin, for ü vowels type v, ie lü enter as lv. lv = 绿 lu = 路 QED  Mark Further suggestion added later: have a look at QIM with QIT. Much better than the Apple input system; works better, customisable, switching between simplified and traditional characters done within QIM, no need to...

Re: Disappearing images
Well I figured out what happened. Somehow the file was saved in the old RTF format. Apparently as long as I didn't exit from Nisus Writer the images were displayed but when I exited, the file was written without the images. How the file type changed I have no idea! After some searching in the docs ...

Re: Does this program read MS Word 1997 for IBM?
Yes, Word 95 and Excel 95 docs -- I was still getting files produced on those particular disaster areas very recently -- are always a problem. They are the prime reason why I still keep a copy of MacLink Plus around ... to handle legacy stuff like that.

Re: Borders?
Or put in a blank line, put a tab at the right margin, double click the tab set it to "right tab" and choose "Underline" as the leader ... you have a range of line formats to choose from. Then simply type a tab character in that paragraph.

FAQs ...
Martin, I'm putting this here 'cos I don't know where else to signal this. I noticed there was a new posting in the Nisus Writer Pro FAQ forum, so I went to have a look. What happened? A message saying "You do not have the permissions to enter this forum" ... ??? Can't read the FAQs in an ...

Re: Inverted quotes
Then I'm stumped. I would still put my bet on the keyboard or keyboard software, though it's curious that it apparently only does it in NWP. Are you sure it doesn't happen in TextEdit, Bean or any of the other apps based on the Apple Text Engine (Word uses Microsoft's own proprietary text engine)? A...

Re: Inverted quotes
I'm one who jumped, so I've been on 10.5, 10.5.1, 10.5.2 and 10.5.3 and I've never seen anything like that. I've just thought ... I don't think you've said what hardware you are using. You haven't had a "coffee moment" with your keyboard have you? The only other thing I can think of is tha...

Re: Inverted quotes
Hmm ... by keyboard shortcut manager I meant anything like Quickeys, or Typeit4me, anything like that. As another possibility, when you're typing at speed, do you find you occasionally put a space after a word, a comma or other punctuation mark without thinking about it, and then put in the quote ma...

Re: Inverted quotes
Looking at the example in your post, I thought you had a space between the comma and the ‘ but when I copied and pasted that stretch it seems not. 1) Does this also happen with double quotes? 2) How are you entering your quotes? With the ordinary key ' or with Alt-] and Shift-Alt-] ? 3) Have you don...

Re: superscript, subscript, and line spacing
Mmm ... I don't care how Nisus chooses to achieve it either. If they find a way of associating super- and subscript calls to Unicode code points, that's great, or if they give us a way we can set a custom raised or lowered baseline on super- and subscripts as they have done with the Note Reference c...

Re: superscript, subscript, and line spacing
Actually, I'm with you all the way. It would be wonderful if one didn't have to find work-arounds, but I'm not sure I've ever met an app where I haven't had to find one at some time or other. As I said in an earlier post, I think it would be great if Nisus can find a way of providing us with a way o...

Re: superscript, subscript, and line spacing
I take your point fully about Fixed spacing then causing problems in other situations, like table-cells for graphics. In your position, I would use an alternative work-around which would be to leave the Normal style with Multiple spacing and create a new style called something like Body Text with Fi...

<snip> shades... I'm going to download Scrivener and give it a try. Great application ... doesn't suit everyone, but it's a great writing environment and it works very well with Scrivener and NWP. <snip> Mark... We will evaluate Bookends.
