Re: Book on Nisus Writer Pro
Great idea, and the emphasis on tips and tricks and a complete understanding of how to use the various features to accomplish things so that we're not fighting the way it was engineered to work, that would be great. We don't need a reworked version of the manual. Your Nisus Way is a classic, by the ...

Re: NW for iPad?
I have no immediate plans to get an iPad, it's just not that appealing to me for various reasons. But I do have the feeling that Apple is going to be replacing OS X as we currently know it with iOS for the Mac. I expect they will also replace the current Intel chips for Intel's Atom line or some oth...

Re: Cross Referencing Images
Martin, thanks for the tips. Seems to work. I will have to experiment to get it to format the way I want, but at least the cross-referencing works.

Cross Referencing Images
Sorry if this is really a newbie question, but I've just squandered hours, in the documentation, searching the forum, googling more generally, and messing around with the NWP ... I want to place a number of pictures in a long document, and be able to reference them, as in 'see figure 14, "East ...

Convert Text Box to Frame
If you convert the Text Box to a Frame, the contents of the Frame will then open in NWE/NWP. Unfortunately, you will have lost the frame and its positioning, but for a one-way translation that might not matter to you and you at least have the contents. To convert, click on the Text Box so the border...

Try an open source driver
I've had poor luck with official HP printer drivers on OS X -- seems like HP doesn't give a rip about Macs or their engineers haven't a clue. I swear my next printer will not be an HP. That said, my best solution has been to use an open source driver from GIMP Print. http://gimp-print.sourceforge.ne...

Split View AND Navigator/Outline Pane
Let me just second cstross's request. Nothing in the poll is a must-have for me. But what would bring me over to Nisus full-time is a way to organize and work with long documents. And that includes some way to navigate through long documents. This alone makes Mellel a better choice for me. (There ar...

How Do You Mean Proprietary?
keithbrown said: But I'm not convinced that replacing Word with another, less ubiquitous verson of proprietary software, is really the way to go. Um, and how is NWE not proprietary? I'm not knocking proprietary, and I think you made a good choice, but just wondering how Mellel is any more proprieta...

Feature Requests
NWE 2.5 is a very nice improvement. A really nice, basic work processor that does most of what I need, albeit sometimes with a bit of frustration. What else would I like? 1. Everything that was in Nisus Classic, just for starters. I realize that NWE is a complete re-write, but your users shouldn't h...

What is autocompletion?
Is this Quickfix? I find nothing in the online help nor the PDF version of the manual mentioning auto, auto completion, completion -- or any combination. Huh?? If you mean Quickfix, then I share the complaint about implementation ... but I'll hold off an explanation until I know I'm in the right pla...

RTF is somewhat open
If you ask Microsoft, they would probably say that all their products are open to use as a standard, but that the deep-going code is untouchable by anyone outside Microsoft. Just my guess. I suppose the one good thing you can say about RTF is that the format is published IIRC. It's an "open&qu...

How much pain for how much gain?
Learning NWCs Macro language was nothing compared to learning PERL. This is somewhat my point. In Word for instance, there's a lot of help for people who are somewhat computer savy, but don't write code 24/7. You can record macros to get the basic syntax, then you can edit the resulting macro to ad...

Where's the documentation
This all begs the question: Where's the documentation? If programmability is one of NWE's big selling points, then why doesn't Nisus publish some really good documentation? It's not logical, Captain. (I'm not talking about a macro tip here and a macro example there. I'm talking a real top to bottom ...

Missing an integrated macro language
One of my disappointments with Nisus Writer Express is that is doesn't have it's own macro language. Nor is there much documentation about how to use perl with Nisus (sheesh! I have to learn yet another programming language?! -- I just want to get some writing chores done!). I've only come over to t...

Printing Out Style Sheets, Macros, etc.
Maybe I missed this, but is there ever going to be a way to print out the style sheets, assigned keyboard shortcuts, macros, etc.? Although Nisus is somewhat customizable, it's hard to know what the current status is. Yes, one can view style sheets while a file is open, but that's not as handy as ha...
