Re: comparisons

Hi, thanks for clearing up this issue. To make Word documents automatically open in Nisus Writer Express, select one of these documents in the Finder, then hit Cmd (Apple, the key next to the Space bar) and i. This brings up a Get Info window. Click on the arrow next to Open With to expand the secti...

Re: comparisons

Hi Sarah, Nisus Writer Express/Pro can open Word documents; how much of the original layout is preserved is largely determined by the complexity of the document. If it only contains text, Nisus will open it almost flawlessly; if the document contains lots of images, text boxes, etc., the results wil...

Re: Select TOC levels when inserting a TOC?

I'm not sure when this became the case, but in the current version of NWP any tab characters should be converted to spaces in the generated TOC. In the TOC, yes, but not in a custom Caption style used in the regular text body. I have set up a caption style that is centre-aligned and meant to give a...

Re: URGENT — Need Help

Hi Matt, this could simply be a setting in NWP's preferences which you may have activated inadvertently. Launch NWP, then click on Nisus Writer Pro>Preferences. In the General section, make sure the box next to "On application launch reopen previously open documents" is unchecked, and your...

Re: .odt support in NWP 1.1

Hi Geoff,

no, you're not being naïve, this is indeed the best solution. At the same time, this method implies having to use two apps instead of one in order to use the document in its entirety in Nisus Writer Pro.

Re: .odt support in NWP 1.1

Hi Sascha, .odt support is quite basic in Leopard, comparable, or perhaps slightly inferior to, Word support in prior and current releases of Mac OS X. If you only need basic text support, you'll be fine; complex content is not supported. I've just created a test document in OpenOffice.org, with a h...

Re: Select TOC levels when inserting a TOC?

For example, anyone working with many tables (or figures, etc) probably already has a "table caption" paragraph style. You could create a "tables" TOC style and apply it to the "table caption" paragraph style. Then whenever you format a table caption with the appropria...

Re: Hidden text?

Hi andreas,

great workaround! I'm sure many forum users would appreciate your posting the script online (if you don't mind, that is); sounds like a useful script to have until a proper solution is implemented in Nisus Writer Pro.

Hi, I'm afraid invisible text is not (yet?) part of Nisus Writer Pro's feature set. You could use very rough workarounds (create a paragraph/character style that turns text white), but this solution is clumsy at best, as the physical space occupied by the "hidden" text is still clearly vis...

I've recently bought Mail Factory and I am quite happy with it. You can print labels, envelopes and postcards, and the layout engine is extremely flexible, so you are not restricted to addresses only.

Maybe you could achieve something very similar by *hiding* the top toolbar. I agree that the toolbar takes away a lot of valuable screen estate, so the use of palettes seems to be the move in the right direction: they extend the program's functionality to the left/right instead of top/bottom, thus a...

I'm not sure if this helps, but you can also click on the Clipboard icon next to the Zoom icon in the status bar to choose "Paste Text Only". Granted, it is not as convenient as an entry in the contextual menu, but it is probably quicker than having to go into the Edit menu. Also, dependin...

Indeed, it places the entire document in there and not just the alias. If you only want an alias, save the document in your preferred folder, create an alias in the Finder and drag that alias into ~/Documents/Nisus Documents. This alias will be treated as a special file in the Document Manager, mean...

I can't speak for Nisus, of course, but I would be very surprised if this advanced feature got included in Nisus Writer Express.
