Re: Future viability of Nisus

My guess is that Nisus Writer has a truly tiny market share and always has done. The fact that Apple has made Pages free may not impact on Nisus Writer sales because in reality the kind of people that will use the free Pages are not the kind of people that would be interested in Nisus Writer. Nisus ...

Re: What is Nisus doing when it is "typesetting text"?

The people on this forum are insulting and unkind, Nisus is silent, and I'm out $50 bucks. There has been one individual who has been a bit silly. Other people have been creating very large documents themselves and trying things out on your behalf to see if they can assist in this. I think you need...

Re: Somebody please make a tutorial for NW Pro!

If anyone has any suggestions for a learning resource, please respond. Thanks. I'm afraid I don't have any suggestion for a learning resource, the manual is it. Nisus Writer is a very full featured program and so the manual is necessarily large. I first started using Nisus Writer many years ago on ...

Pressing tab twice will select the expression in the dialogue box.

Re: Workflow for academic writing?

On a side-note: I have Ulysses licence as well, why do you prefer it? I seem to have Ulysses 2.1, but version 3 is out, it seems. I think back then I went for Scrivener, as I needed to work with RTF both import and export. And I think Ulysses only works with plaintext/markdown? (Which might be fine...

Re: Workflow for academic writing?

I don't use Scrivener myself, I use Ulysses. However I've read that EndNote can be used with Scrivener in an automated fashion and here is a website that describes how to set it up: http://theplan.co.uk/scrivener-endnote-crib-sheet/ Personally, for longer writing projects I write entirely in Ulysses...

Re: What is Nisus doing when it is "typesetting text"?

As has been mentioned by another Nisus Writer has a Zap Gremlins macro which is bundled with the application, so there is no need to use the BBEdit command, you can zap in Nisus Writer ☺ You are absolutely right of course that RTF is a Microsoft format. I think it has become widespread in its use be...

Re: Scrolling in full-screen mode

I would like to see typewriter scrolling in Draft View and Full Screen View. I really like Draft View but when your typing gets to the bottom of the screen then you are stuck down there, which is hopeless. The only way to have the typing taking place higher up the screen is to put in a lot of empty ...

Re: What is Nisus doing when it is "typesetting text"?

It might be an idea to open that plain text file in TextWrangler, use "Zap Gremlins" and then save that file. I guess TextWrangler has "Zap Gremlins" this is something that BBEdit has and usually TextWrangler has these things as well. You have removed the possibility of corrupt f...

Re: What is Nisus doing when it is "typesetting text"?

I have done a bit of experimenting. I have created a document with 900 pages of text. This had all one font. Like that it opened very quickly as I expected into Page View. I put in some images and graphics and this made no difference really. Then I went through and put in many different fonts random...

Facelift?

I am one for substance rather than looks however I think Nisus Writer is looking very old fashioned now. I remember when Nisus Writer for OS X was new and then it looked totally contemporary. Nisus Writer for the classic OS never changed its looks but the classic Mac OS was in a different time when ...

Re: Working With Nisus and Pages

I will add after my previous reply that I think some people have had success getting refunds from the App Store. I think that you could contact the relevant support and tell them that you believed Pages would export and import from RTF as the previous Pages did this. Tell them that this new Pages is...

Re: Working With Nisus and Pages

I think that you will never be happy trying to get the new Pages to work with Nisus Writer. However I have a suggestion which you may find to be far far better. That is, to use Ulysses III. You will find that you can Ulysses III with Nisus Writer very well. I recommend doing all your writing in Ulys...

Re: Livesearch feature (as in InfoClick) for NWP?

I'm afraid you would need to change to Find/Replace, it is not possible to just find a word in the completion list like "InfoClick".

Re: Livesearch feature (as in InfoClick) for NWP?

BBEdit text completion uses the current words in the document along with dictionary words and other sources. I don't know if the text completion could be made to be just the words in the document itself, but with BBEdit usually just about everything can be turned on or off so there is probably a way...
