The new symbol is distinct from the generic rupee symbol (&#8220;Rs&#8221; \/ &#038;#x20a8, Unicode U+20A8) used by a variety of rupee currencies and is destined for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.itworld.com\/business\/114207\/indias-new-rupee-symbol-wont-show-soon-computers\">inclusion in the Unicode standard<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Personally I think the new symbol looks quite nice and is the best of the <a href=\"http:\/\/timesofindia.indiatimes.com\/India\/Cabinet-decides-on-rupee-sign-today-\/articleshow\/6084121.cms\">five finalists<\/a>, though I prefer the fluid handwriting appearance shown in the finalist graphic.
