I got this lovely warning today as Time Machine was backing up my iMac:
My drive isn’t that large (160 gig WD Passport) and I probably should get a larger drive. But, eventually Time Machine will eat that drive as well.
Maybe it is time to look for alternative backup solutions.
Em, yes or no, it depends on what you want to be taken care of by Timemachine. If you only back up your documents folder without backing up the virtual machines, it should not be that bad…
Dave – You are probably a better techi than I, but if you are running Parallels, make sure that it is not being backed up by time machine. It is a huge disk image, and every time you open Windows it will change slightly causing the entire thing to be backed up.
Thanks for your comments, tbo and David.
I am backing up the entire drive. I thought about just backing up the documents folder, but I would rather have a restorable backup, just in case.
David, I am not using Parallels. I guess I either have to get a bigger drive, or use another tool. I used to have a script that used rsync, but it stopped working under 10.5. Maybe I will try to fix that.
