Have any of you seen the new ads from Apple? If you want to have a look, they are here. This is the first time since the “Switch” ads of a few years ago that I can recall Apple trying to sell the “Macintosh” as a whole, instead of an individual computer like the new iMac.
I have seen some commentary both in praise and in concern. I could see where the virus angle could bite them in the rear, but why not play that angle? It is essentially true, isn’t it?
My favorites are the iLife and the Network ads. I like them because they really show the strength of the Mac vs. the PC.
So what do you think?
Something about the music annoyed me.
As for the virus ad… I would rather that quick security updates speak for themselves than for Apple to start bragging about it.
I aggree with you, Mike.
When I see how Apple reacts on security leaks in MacOsx, I do not know if the Windows side is worst.
I agree with Dave: the Network ad is the only good one to my eyes. About iLife one, Windows software for handling music/photos/videos quite as good as Apple ones if you take time to browse the Web.
The problem is they are so many and so different when bundled with new machines: Dell bundles their own ones, Medion bundles their ones, ..
iLife is one unique suite bundled with all the new macs, is completly integrated to the system and other 3rd party apps (Toast, Limewire, ..): that’s the force of iLife.
I like them. I think the one about viruses may be perceived as arrogant and incite virus writers to switch as well…
well being 50
I think the adds are neat, but the mac guy is what I was when I was 20…. I think the mac guy could look a little less like a young grunge guy..
offtopic (couldn’t find a recent on-topic post to comment on):
Has OpenDocument support for Nisus been considered lately? It seems to gain influence quickly, and is a really open format. Similar to what Nisus is already doing with RTF, but OpenDocument has the advantage that more stuff is standardized so other word processors don’t have to know the Nisus RTF extensions to keep most features.
Of course the drawback is that MS Word can’t read it (yet?), but I think OpenDocument is really a chance to consolidate the office software application landscape, and to have a common standard also for more advanced functionality.
It would be cool if Nisus Writer could read and write OpenDocument Text, and maybe some day (when it’s widely enough supported) replace RTF as default format.
Just my 2 cents,
