It’s out! Nisus Writer Express 2.0 was released very late last night and I have to be honest here: You have no idea how happy we are to see it released. Well, I guess you do now.
Anyway, as Charles mentioned in an earlier post, we worked very hard on this release and I think that it shows, if I do say so myself. The engineering team did most of the heavy lifting, keeping the app stable even in the alpha builds, let alone the beta builds. Our beta test team did a great job in finding bugs, they deserve to be acknowledged too. We couldn’t have done it without them, that’s for sure.
So thanks to all of you for your help, and thanks to our engineering team for making a great app.
Now, time for sleep!
The first thing I noticed is the highlighter tool. It’s something I’ll use often, I think. I find reviewing and understanding online articles is much easier if I copy and paste them into a word processor. That way I can slice and dice them. The highlighter tool is a natural for me to bring out important info.
I don’t see an easy way to bullet text, like the tools in MS Word. I might be missing something, as I’ve just downloaded 2.0 this morning.
Multi-Lingual ? What about Bi-Directional ? It seems that Nisus neglected some of the users just because it having fun with new features, but what about old features.
Beautiful. Very well done. Excellent! Excellent! Excellent!. I went with NWX because of the reg-ex find and replace. But I became discouraged over the long wait for tables. Even considered spending some money on Mellel but did not like the way it locked me into it’s file format. RTF translation was awful. Nisus has got it right on so many levels I can’t list them all. Congrats!
Very well done. But, sadly, some features need a bit of work. Hyphenation, which is a big deal for me, works fine in English, but the display goes crazy (added hyphens) when styles are redefined. In SPANISH hyphenation doesn’t work–the rules are different (I suspect that it is the case in other languages). Paragraph formatting is missing the options to keep it with next paragraph and orphan control. Multiple column documents are a little unstable when formatting is changed. On the bright side, style sheets are really easy to redefine (this is one of the best features). Well done. I’m sure those little glitches will be ironed out soon. Congratulations!
Congratulations! I’ve used Nisus since just about the beginning, but NWE 1.0 had too many problems, and NW Classic is showing its age, so I’ve been trying out alternatives in case NWE 2.0 didn’t show up with the goods. On a first look, it’s more than good enough.
The interface changes to Find and Replace are great – the palette was just about useless, but we’re now back to a cleaner version of the classic interface. One thing I now realise is missing though, is the ability to search and replace on character style. Also a Macroize button would be neat.
But get some sleep and take a break first. You’ve earned it!
I’m sorry I’m not cheering yet guys But I’m not seeing It yet , I just downloaded it today , and I just keep getting these internal error alerts over and over again. and I cannot use it and all the new features ,I was looking forward .
what gives?d tell us what the hell they mean, and how we can go about fixing it, I have Os x10.3.5 Panther , That’s as updated as you can get,
Now I have to go back to the old version , That seems to work without the issues the new version presents , I started It 5 times and 5 times I’ve gotten Internal error alerts, So does this free upgrade count , If it doesn’t work.
Maybe I can wait for your nex I would say nice things If it worked for me, But there are some issues with it , that I keep getting from each application start up,
What does Internal error mean? Why is this error a secret , why aren’t these error listed somewhere , Why must it be Guess work for us? Gives a page list the errors ant version fixing the problem of internal errors.
I looked on the nisus Help menus , There are no error listed there either, or how to update or upgrade intructions made easy , I hate looking for infomation you need and it is not listed or working as a tech investigator to solve tech software problems, waiting on phones going from one operator to another and finally getting tech and being put on hold and listening to endless loops of Musac , Don’t make me go through that ,post it in a page. somewhere it says ” Errors and trouble shooting and common Problems, so we don’t have to waste our time looking simple problems that can be solved by looking in all the wrong places .I hope to solve this problem soon, or I will be down , if I have to rely on Ms Word.
Chris: Please make sure Nisus Writer Express is NOT running and then delete your preferences file. (Look for a file named “com.nisus.NisusWriter.plist” in your Library/Preferences folder.) This should resolve your problem.
