Final Touches

We are putting the final touches on the next release now. It will be called Nisus Writer Express 2.1. It has lots of speed improvements, many little changes you will probably never notice (unless it bothered you) and French localization!

I hope you keep the English localization as well. ;-)

What a joy 2.0+ has been to work with — I’m looking forward to 2.1 even more. You’ve done marvels with the porting; I just wish it had all happened a year or two earlier, before the Dread MS Office and its ilk gained a greater hold on Mac fans. We loyalists remain . . . well, “loyal,” and hope for the very best. And we proselytze, too! After all, these are the last days of “faith-based” administration.

Great – looking forward very much to the new release. I have to say that I am disapointed with the typing speed in NWE 2.0 (but very happy about everything else). I’ve got Os X 10.3.5 running on a 800ghz iBook G4, and NWE’s keyboard down considerably after working for a while with several documents open – often 2 seconds or more of lag time! I havn’t had this problem with any other Mac OSX application (except MS Word), so I don’t think it’s due to a leak from another program.

Anyway, this is by no means a trol – in general I think 2.0 was a great release and I am happy I registered, and it seems from reading this blog that my speed problems are probably worse than what most people have experienced.

Dan, as far as I can tell, if you turn off all the automatic stuff (spelling, saving etc) the NWE 2.x will work considerably faster.

Your reported decision to postpone pagination until the user requests page view sounds right. It should make NWE more responsive when editing long documents in Draft View.
