Nisus Writer 6.5 Updates
-
PowerPC only
-
Runs in Classic mode under Mac OSX
-
Runs on any Macintosh running 8.5 or later
-
Added outlining (see the Outline submenu of the Tools menu).
-
Added the Document Manager (see the Documents menu to the right of the Gear/Cogwheel menu).
-
Changed: moving paragraphs (selected by "quadruple-clicking" 4-clicks)
has been changed. Copy and Paste now allow you to copy a paragraph by
pasting either at the end of the paragraph in front, or at the beginning
of the paragraph behind the new location. Drag and Drop adds an additional
return at the end of the selection.
-
Changed: the "Plain Text" command no longer clears user defined styles.
This was changed so that choosing plain text within an outline would not
break the outline.
-
Fixed a crashing bug when quickly typing more than 32 characters in the
Catalog window.
-
Fixed support for importing and exporting footnotes using the Mercury
RTF filter. The changed filter itself (installed with this version) is
also required for footnotes to work.
Nisus Writer 6.0.3 Updates
-
Fixed a bug in which, if you have a multi-column document with headers and/or footers,
the headers and/or footers would neither print nor display in the Layout Page window.
Nisus Writer 6.0.2 Updates
-
Nisus Writer version 6.0.2 is PowerPC only.
-
The Registration/Serial Number dialog will now get the Name and
Organization from the Internet control panel (Internet Config) if
they are available.
-
Fixed display bugs when switching from Main Document view to
Footnote/Endnote and/or Header/Footer view.
-
Fixed a bug in which some System-wide menus prevented Command-C
from working. Examples are the Simplified Chinese Input menu, and the PGP menu.
-
If a window is set to display the footnotes (or headers/footers) and
you do a find, it will work correctly even if the
'Include Notes/Hdrs/Ftrs' button is not checked. The active view will
be searched, but not any of the others.
-
The 'B' option of the 'Find All' command (in macros) now properly
allows summary finds.
-
Fixed crash in 'Edit Word Services' when trying to remove a
previously added service.
-
Fixed a bug in the Widow & Orphan Control that removed color
attributes as it fixed the widows and orphans.
-
The effect of the 'Maximum Scrolling Speed' option in the preferences
has been changed. A preferences value of 14 means scroll one line every
1/60th of a second (no acceleration). A value of 0 means scroll one line
every second. Values above 14 add acceleration, every 2 seconds it speeds
up by one line per 1/60th of a second, with a maximum of the preference
value minus 13. So for a value of 15 the maximum is 2 (one step of
acceleration), at 16 the maximum is 3, etc.
-
The 'Enable Line Wrap' and 'Paste' submenus should now remain active at
all times. This is so that macros won't fail at odd times. This does
introduce a problem with the Paste command: if the Clipboard is empty
and there is text selected in the document, choosing the Paste will
delete the selected text.
-
Option-clicking on the 'Desktop' button in the Catalog window will now
switch to the finder much more reliably.
-
Fixed a problem where Nisus Writer asked for confirmation of a serial
number when switching from OS X to earlier versions of the OS and back
again.
-
Fixed the Japanese 'Copy to Find' problem (font size was being set to
255 in find dialog).
-
Prevents Glossary items from being expanded while editing them. This
prevents recursion problems if a Glossary item contains itself (many
null characters were being inserted).
-
Glossary items that contain a word separator (space, command, tab, etc.)
should now expand properly, with the insertion point ending up in the
correct place.
-
Added a few more words to the AutoCorrect Spelling glossary.
-
Added new macros to the Text Editing Macros file: Bibliography
Capitalization, Form Paragraphs Selections (for non-contiguous
paragraphs), Smart Quotes, and Straight Quotes.
-
Fixed the Command (double-click) macro in the Nisus Macros file so
that double-clicking a URL with only "www.domain.whatever" will launch
a Web Browser.
-
Enhanced the Mercury RTF XTND filter to both read and write RTF files
in any language (WorldScript as well as Roman), and handle footnotes.

version of the text at and near the insertion point.
-

abbreviation you have defined will be expanded automatically as you type.
The setting is saved in the preferences file.
-
Added a new feature called the Nisus Text Analyzer Tool. It analyzes the
text of the current document and produces phrase lists according to relevance
indexes. These can be a useful starting point for indexing. Can also be used
for very quickly producing a word list of your document. Also lists number of
words, number of unique words, and the frequency of each word and phrase.
-
Support for Navigation Services was added, including Open dialog preview of
text documents, Nisus Writer Glossary documents and Macro documents.
-
Support for contextual menus was added.
-
A new Grammar Checker is included.
-
IBM's dictation software "ViaVoice" is supported.
-
Importing of graphics files using QuickTime has been added.
-
A new XTND RTF Filter from Mercury Software has been added.
-
Feature added to allow you to copy the displayed data in the Word Count
dialog.

A special file save called Nisus¨TextPlus was added to the list in the
Save dialog. It saves the document as a text file with all the notes
(endnotes or footnotes) converted to text.
-
Nisus Table tool now remembers font setting of each empty cell.
-
Platinum menu background. (This is not yet support for Appearance Manager.)

and repeat words checking.

panel items (e.g. page numbers as numbered in document).

"In Selection" is on, but there is no selection and the user initiates a
search/replace operation, the checkbox is automatically turned off and the
operation carried out on the active document. Previously forgetting that it
was on would cause "Expression Not Found" messages and frustration.
-
When search is run from a macro, search through headers/footers and footnotes
is always turned off. From a macro, you can always perform the search
explicitly in these other components.
-
When opening a new document, using the supplied Nisus New File template,
the counters are setup to be hierarchically related and Custom Counter F
is set to not display but to re-set all other counters.
Nisus Writer 6.0 Bug Fixes
-
Fixed old bug traced back to NW 4.1. If catalog is opened the selection of
font in the "Font" menu with shift key sets this font for the catalog display.
When the font and its associated script uses TSM services the catalog window
starts accepting input from any keystrokes that follow. This bug caused
misbehavior of the catalog in NW 4.1 and 5.0 and a crash in NW 5.1
-
Fixed the failure to display and print frame/border in layout view. Now
displays in color if available, to help distinguish lines.
-
Fixed crash related to XTND opening of files in certain cases.
-
Fixed a crashing bug in the Table tool when deleting a footnote.
-
Solved Spell Catcher problem when communicating with Nisus Writer.
-
Enabled "Paste" item and "Paste Submenu" items even when clipboard empty.
This is needed so that certain Paste commands (which do not need anything
in the Clipboard) will work in macros.
-
Fixed traditional Chinese Language in-line input Problem.
-
Users are now prevented from deleting CR between foot-notes and headers in
the notes window. Such inadvertent deletions used to cause a corruption of
the footnotes.
-
Fixed the following crashing bug: Open a new window, type something, do not
save, open any style library, type something, do not save, quit the
application. Crashes during closing and saving windows.
-
Fixed occasional crashes during "Replace All" in spelling checker.
-
Undo/Redo did not bring to front the window it had changed. This bug was
introduced in NW 5.0 while battling to get Open Doc to work.
-
The dialog for inserting a formatted page break did not process negative
numbers properly sometime causing a crash.
-
"Find in selection" checkbox, after pressing the Find button is now restored.
-
In "Macroized" search/replace patterns any quotes present in the search
expression are now doubled, as the resulting macro needs that.
-
Flashing Header/Footnote window bug fixed.
-
"Additional Index As" used to have a limit of only one additional index for
each selected text. This limit no longer applies.
-
When spellchecking a mixed language scripts document, it did not skip text
in non-dictionary scripts. Now it does.
-
Fixed the "out-dent paragraph bug" which sometimes caused the text to run
beyond the end of the right wrapped line.
-
Automatically executing macro names became case sensitive. Now not sensitive
to case.
-
Remaining known bug:
Recently it was discovered that on System 9 or later when graphics layer is
active and the "Front Of Text/Behind Text" button is clicked to open the
menu and while the menu is open the mouse is moved over the next button
on the left, NW hangs for a very long time (some minutes.) All versions
since NW 4.1 are affected. This also occurs if the open menu is the
"Text Wrap" button pop-down.
Nisus Writer 5.1.3 Update changes
-
FIXED: The Measurement Preference dialog. Previously the
lower half of the dialog was disabled.
-
REMOVED: MacLinkPlus XTND translators have been removed
from the Installer. This may help with XTND/Dataviz translator
conflicts, or not.

- FIXED: Script clicking problem. Click into another script did
not change the script in spite of proper settings in the preferences.
- FIXED: Copy, Paste, Cut, Select are always enabled when any dialog is on top.
- FIXED: Case sensitivity in search. Two byte Japanese characters should
never be uppercased even during a case insensitive search.

character was part of a two byte set but, if the character was grep
special character, it converted unconditionally.
- FIXED: User Dictionary problem enabling an unlimited number of words
in the User Dictionary.
- FIXED: OpenDoc menus. When the part is activated we provide our
own File and Edit menus.

Writer graphic and select a part, then shift-select graphics element.
You got the warning dialog, you clicked OK and crashed.
- CHANGED: In Windows menu the document item of modified document
is in italic now rather than underlined as before. Underlining
does not work well with Japanese script.
- ADDED: GXMagicLib to the Nisus Writer. It is added to PPC version only.
If system 8 and GXGrafix and PPC and GXMagic extension then GXMagic
printing is enabled.
- REMOVED: Removed the item "Kanji Lookup".

having names differing only in case were not added.
- FIXED: Paste enabled in glossary dialog

the default behaviour like in NW 5.0, that is when starting styles

item of OpenDoc submenu is enabled when inserting anything is OK.
The rest of the items of the submenu are disabled if OpenDoc is not
initialized

enabled whenever dialogs appear: i.e. Macroize, Check Spelling,
Thesaurus, Jump. In addition Copy, Select All are enabled when
Catalog or Character Table are in front
- FIXED: Floating Toolbars Problem. NW 4.0 had a bug. there is an
open window and few toolbars. When you want to print the toolbars
have to be hidden. They do not show again when the printing is
finished. To show them again you have to select them from the menu again
