Question:
Why can't I move, select or resize a Live Object after clicking on it?
Answer:
OpenDoc Live Objects behave
differently from other Nisus Writer graphic objects.
When you click once into a Live Object, the object becomes "activated".
In this state, the menus change and the Live Object's editor comes into the forefront
within Nisus Writer. To move, position and resize a Live Object, the object needs to
become "selected". To select a Live Object, hold down the shift key when you
click on the Live Object. When it is selected, the Live Object will have a dotted
rectangle around it's perimeter and will have selection handles. The handles will allow
you to resize the objects editing area. In this state the object can be dragged to
a different location, can be moved by using the arrow keys. You can also select a Live
Object while on the graphics layer by dragging the mouse over the Object while holding
the mouse button down.
Question:
When I click on a Live Object, the menu bar does not change, and it doesn't appear to activate. Why?
Answer:
If a Live Object will not activate when
you click on it, then the Object may have
been placed into a "bundled state", OpenDoc may be de-installed on your
machine, or the editor for the Live Object is only a viewer. In the Part Info dialog
(found in the Edit Menu), you can choose to "Click to Select Part", this is
called bundling the object. If the object is bundled, then clicking on the part will
not activate it, it will select it and double clicking it will open it in it's own
window (if the Object supports that feature).
Question:
Is there a way that I can place one Live Object in front of another?
Answer:
Yes. Switch to the graphics layer by
clicking on the button, or choose the menu
item Tools:Display:Graphics Bar. On the graphics layer there is an additional menu
titled Graphics. In that menu you can choose Bring to Front, Send to Back, Duplicate,
Nudge menus and the Snap to Grid option with selected Live Objects. As of 5.0.1,
the other items are not supported with Live Objects.
Question:
How can I cause text to wrap around Live Objects?
Answer:
Once again, go to the graphics layer and choose the pop up button in the ruler, and choose Text Wrap On.
Question:
Why is it when I resize Live Objects that some of them resize and others don't?
Answer:
Some Live Objects will not resize
their content when you resize the Object's
border in Nisus Writer, instead the Object's editing area will be resized. Some
parts will only resize to certain dimensions, and so will not allow you to resize
the editing area. As you use a Live Object, you'll get to know it's unique features.
Question:
Why can't I select text or pictures with Live Objects?
Answer:
This feature has not been implemented.
Presently, Live Objects are independent
creatures that exist in your documents. Their existence is dependent on their
editors presence in the Editors folder in the MacOS folder.
