Changes For Version 2.6

New features:

Added French and German localizations.

Document selection is now restored when reopening an existing document.

Added preference to have font menus show a preview of the font (WYSIWYG font menu).

Option added to allow autosave to make temporary backup files rather than overwriting the original.

Added preference to reopen the last set of open documents when Express is launched.

Minor additions:

Can now deselect already selected regions using either the command or shift key.

Page/section breaks now show in page view when "show invisibles" is on.

Added menu items for converting "Smart Quotes to Plain Quotes" and vice versa.

Added option to restart note numbering on a per-section basis.

Margins palette works on multiple sections at once now.

"Copy/Paste Font" now copies all attributes that affect character display (eg: highlighter, character style, etc).

Contextual menu for hyperlinks now includes "Remove Link".

Can now have different margins for a section that starts with a same page section break.

Can now apply highlighter to styles.

Section numbers show up in draft view now.

Can now select many list paragraphs and press (Shift) Tab to indent/outdent.

Shift + Tab now decreases the listing level (outdent).

Zoom tag options replicated in the View menu.

Added "Paste Font" and "Paste Ruler" menus to the font/ruler tag items.

Added "Go To Note/Reference" menu to note tag item. Added "Convert To Footnote/Endnote" to contextual menu.

Changing list levels clears any custom indents the user had set.

Made character palette font sizing controls more useful.

User is prevented from making list style's "text" indent smaller than "item" indent.

Speed enhancements for the following situations:

Typing in large plain text documents (or those documents with few attributes).

Opening documents in Draft View.

Opening of all Classic documents.

Editing in documents with many list items/bullets.

Scrolling when there are a lot of selections (eg: after a large Find All).

Editing in documents with lots of zero width directionality override characters.

Major bug fixes:

Fixed various ruler redrawing bugs.

Tabs set before the head (left) indent are no longer ignored.

InDesign no longer crashes when it opens our RTF files (we worked around a bug in InDesign).

Fixed crash that could occur when closing document.

Fixed how first footnote on a page sometimes used improper indentation.

Fixed random unwanted scrolling that could occur (sometimes happened when background layout completed).

Fixed a variety of problems with Macros:

Fixed how Perl macros could hang when processing a large amount of text.
Fixed: sometimes Perl macro output would not appear in the document.
Fixed: AppleScript macros that indirectly sent AppleEvents to Express could hang (eg: Bookends macros).
Fixed: menu macros that applied styles would only work in the first document they were run in.
"Send As RTF" no longer broken in Perl macros.

Fixed crash that could occur when updating note references.

Fixed: all document content after a same page section break could disappear (not draw on screen).

Fixed: sometimes layout stalled when columns of different widths present.

Fixed how sometimes the first page header incorrectly appeared on several pages.

Ignore spelling now works in spelling panel when only one replacement is available.

Tables:

Fixed tables sometimes not showing in printouts or Save to PDF.

Fixed crash that could occur when deleting tables.

Fixed some cases where the end of a table would improperly overlap the text following it.

Fixed a few table redraw bugs.

Fixed how list bullets in otherwise empty table cells are lost when saved to RTF (or copied).

Fixed crash that could occur anytime table cells were added at the end of the document.

Fixed how styles in empty table cells could be lost when copy-pasting table slices.

Inserting table rows/cols now properly copies cell padding and vertical alignment from adjacent cells.

Splitting table cells no longer can lose font and other attributes in certain situations.

Tables no longer wrap improperly in Draft view when zoom changed (or document opens with different zoom).

Deleting all cells in a table no longer bleeds tiny font into document.

The Enter key now properly scrolls and flashes for table selections.

Now it is easier to place the insertion point just before/after a table.

Deleting rows/columns from tables no longer results in unhelpful selections.

Fixed: table cell was not scrolled into view when find result was the whole contents of the cell.

Fixed crash when dragging text into a table cell when the selection was near the end of the document.

Home/End keys properly scroll when editing in a table.

Fixed possible crash when undo/redo of table cell splitting.

Fixed: if inserting text causes a table cell to switch pages the selection is improperly set.

Classic documents:

Improved import of text from Classic documents (eg: less garbled text and bizarre characters).

Faster opening of all Classic documents.

Fixed how Classic documents with tables could caush crashes or improperly formatted documents.

Classic documents are always opened as a "new file" now.

Minor bug fixes:

Insertion point is now visible after inserting a page break.

Fixed for Tiger: automatic numbers are no longer slightly off the baseline.

Fixed some problems with custom first page headers.

Applying a list style that was already applied now toggles the list style off.

Tweaks to smart quotes to allow proper nesting. Also, no longer avoids binding to close parens.

New header/footers properly have Normal style applied.

Changing a LinkBack graphic in the original app now marks the Express document dirty.

Fixed: if you "Save As" your document over its existing location you can no longer save the document because "location is unknown".

Smart insert/delete when drag-dropping text is no longer enabled unless user has double or triple clicked to make the selection.

Fixed: changing selection while the color wheel is shown (opened from character palette well) no longer causes unwanted color application.

Fixed: sometimes pages added in sections with odd/even headers could use wrong margins.

Fixed case where rectangular selection could fail when command key also used.

Autosaved documents that are otherwise unsaved now track their file. Eg: know about renames in the Finder, etc.

Changing "highlight autotext" preference now updates the display immediately.

Fixed how delete/copy/paste of styles when stylesheet navigator has focus did nothing (beeps).

Inserting text just before a list bullet no longer results in a weird selection.

Restart page numbering option no longer gets confused by same page section breaks.

Fixed crash when removing text from a custom list level format.

Fixed crash when tabbing through ruler markers.

Fixed how some RTF files with graphics prevented the file from opening properly.

Fixed crashing bug when changing hypenation options for a document.

User can no longer accidentally open two windows for the same document when interacting with the Document Manager.

Fixed how image files in RTFD packages remain locked after document closed.

Fixed: If you take a document manager file and do a "Save As" back to the document manager the original would be deleted.

Fixed crash when entering some header/footers.

Fixed erratic insertion point blinking.

RTF files that incorrectly use the "s" control to set a character style do not confuse Express

Fixed crash when dragging last list bullet in document.
