Cutting Text

Cut text

1. Select the desired text.

2. Either…

choose the menu command: Edit > Cut

from the Clipboard tag on the Status Bar choose the menu command: Cut

press or “right click” your mouse or “secondary click” your trackpad and choose the menu command: Cut.

press or “right click” your mouse or “secondary click” your trackpad and choose the menu command: Cut > Append Cut.

remove the current selection and insert it at the end of whatever is stored in the current Clipboard.

As explained in the section on Drag and Drop, you can simply drag a selection from one location to another in the current document or across documents. Because this removes your selection from one place, you must “drop” the selection into another portion of your document.

Delete text

When you choose the menu command: Edit > Cut you actually place a copy of that text on the Clipboard. However, if you just want to delete the text

Choose the menu command: Edit > Delete to remove a selection

Press to remove the characters to the left of your insertion point (or the selection)

⌘⌫ removes everything from the insertion point to the beginning of the paragraph, but no further.

⌥⌫ the first full word behind the insertion point. Continue pressing ⌥⌫ to remove more text one word at a time.
