2.5b4 still does not insert ligatures by menu command.
Have verified existence of Ligs in font (not dfont)
This is an ongoing issue since NWE was released.
Why?

Ligatures are not completely absent in Nisus Writer Express, we merely do not support all fonts.
As you may know, we use Apple's text engine to do the grunt work in displaying and laying out text. So currently our ligature support is limited to that which Apple provides. This may change in a future version, but there will be no additional ligature support when 2.5 is released, sorry.
