Should the Documents folder that contains all my Nisus files be placed in users/cass_mm or in iCloud Drive/Documents?

It’s up to you where you save your documents. From what you say, I surmise that you have iCloud set to store your Desktop and Document folders.

I’d create a specific folder for your Nisus documents to keep them all together. You can make it either as a child of Documents or in /users/cass_mm/ (i.e. your Home folder. What I would definitely not do is store them directly in your Home folder.

I'd like to echo Mark's advice. Your Nisus Writer documents folder (perhaps you mean the "Document Manager" folder?) should be distinct from any other standard folder, like the Documents folder in your home folder or iCloud. I follow Mark's suggestion of making my Nisus documents folder a subfolder/child of the Documents folder, i.e. the folder path is:

/Users/your_user_name/Documents/Nisus Documents
