Microsoft Office.mdimporter cannot index Nisus files!

I noticed that Spotlight loses the ability to index .doc files that have been edited/saved with Nisus Writer Express!
I often get .doc files from clients, which I edit and then save. Well, it turns out Microsoft Office.mdimporter has no problems indexing .doc files before I open and save them in Nisus.
VERY frustrating. What gives?
