OT fonts - Any chance

Any chance we'll soon see even minimal support for OT fonts?
Maybe just a switch for text numbers?

Or at least support for the features of the OS X font panel?

Thanks for any response.

Hi John. When you say:

What features are you referring to exactly? Things like double underline or colored strikethrough? We do have our eye on adding these.

As for the OpenType fonts, we're at the mercy of Apple since we rely on their core text system to handle font display for us. Until Apple decides that OpenType fonts are something that they would like to add support for, it is very unlikely you'll see them working properly in Nisus Writer Express. We've definitely filed feature requests with Apple on this matter.

Apple font panel

The font panel used by Apple's TextEdit, and many 3rd party apps DOES support some OT features, and provides these services to the application.

In TextEdit: Format->Font->Show Fonts opens the panel, which has a sub-menu (sprocket down arrow- at lower left) for Typography which is context sensitive. It reads the selected font and pops a window allowing selection of OT features, if available. It ain't foolproof, but must save a lot of coding a la Mellel.

I do a lot of text formatting, and frequently need old style numbers, small caps, and other features. These are available through this feature.

My system is iMac G5, Tiger 10.4.5, 1 Gig ram.

Hope this info is at least partially correct. Sorry I don't know the correct Apple monikers for these features.
