NWE Seems To Be Working OK

Well, I'm finishing up a project over the next few days that was begun this Summer, first in OO3, and then NWE—my first project, so far, that has never been worked on in Word at all. In fact, NWE is the only app that has ever opened this document. I have to say, I'd forgotten how nice it is to write in an environment that isn't constantly poking you in the shoulder to anticipate your next move.

Good job, Nisus guys!

Now, if only there were TOC indexing....

/me ducks head and runs away ;)

What is OO3? Openoffice is only up to version 2. Cheers!

Oh, duh! Given the comments in the various threads here and on the Mellel forum, I should have figured that out. Sorry for being clueless. Cheers!

Just another vote here for NWE 2.6 being a delicious piece of software!

I have been on Nisus Express only since 2.1, I couln't write a book with Word. I have written 2 books using NE only, with which I work every day, for every possible text. 2.6 is a nice step forward. I still miss a few features which were there in Nisus Classic, though.

I have just, I *think*, completed my first major project in NWE. 27 pages of text. 32 footnotes. 3 pages of works cited. Begun on the road in July in a dorm room in Limerick, Ireland and in a rented apt in SW London. Completed (again on the road) in Albuquerque, NM. Even writing all of this in various iterations of the NWE betas, I had no real problems or annoyances like I have using Word (which still has not fixed the footnote bug introduced in 1997).

Now to put the finishing touches on it and send it off to my target journal!

Good job, Nisus guys!

Interesting that you should mention a footnote bug on this forum. I consider the lack of control over footnote form one of the weakest parts of NWE (vs. Mellel or OO or NeoOffice). What bug in Words footnotes are you referring to? Cheers!

While there are certainly bugs in the current NWE implementation of footnotes, they are far, FAR less annoying than Word's inability to control widows and orphans. Since Office '97 on PC and Office '98 on the Mac, Word has been unable to keep orphans under control—they spill over to the next page whether you want them to or not.
