Geoff, you could be like me, sitting happily on 10.9 with nary a crash or bug or problem to speak of with Mavericks. One of Apple's better OS efforts, and the price is definitely right!

(Well, aside from the latest outrages they've forced on the Finder. (How can they keep making it worse year after year?) Now instead of the old "always open folders in new windows" option, you can only make them open in new tabs instead of new windows; but if the tabs-always option is off and the window's toolbar is open folders instead open in the same (browser-style) window (the most useless of Finder window styles). Set the tabs-always option on, but have the toolbar/sidebar off, and the folder opens in a new window instead of a new tab, completely ignoring the tabs-always setting! Tabbed Finder windows are great, but having to have the toolbar open to use them is not. Who thought this nonsense was a good idea?! How in God's name are you supposed to explain, let alone justify, this arcane and maddeningly inconsistent behaviour to new (or newish) Mac users? And there's still no way to turn off $#@&* Stacks. Which until now was the most useless, inconsistent and confusing Finder feature. Sigh.)

But aside from this I really like Mavericks! Honest.
Haha honestly, what a hopeless mess. And Quick Preview? Anything but Quick, LOL.

That said, I haven't experienced any crashes with Nisus since I installed Mavericks.

That crash report looks to me as though the problem is one of the recent files. If you could get rid of the recent file list, that would help. Try deleting the file:

/Users/you/Library/Preferences/com.nisus.NisusWriter.LSSharedFileList.plist

I'm very sorry to hear it. The crash logs indicate the same problem as before: something is going wrong in the way your system (OSX) is managing the recent documents list, which OSX does on behalf of NWP (and all other apps).

That's a very good suggestion John, and is in fact the advice we gave to quiggin originally, which fixed the bug, but (it seems) only for a time. Honestly I'm not sure what else to suggest; maybe it's time to throw some system diagnostic tools at the problem, eg: file system check, etc.

Since quiggin's indicated crashes with other apps like Mail, it might be time to contact Apple and see what they can do.

I have been using Mavericks on my MacBook Pro now for since it arrived and I think that there is a lot to like about it.

I have yet to introduce it on my Mac Pro which is where I do all my "real work" with video editing and graphics etc.

Geoff mentions a problem with accessing folders. He may be referring to accessing the Library folder which needs the option key held down so it can be seen in the Go To menu in the Finder. This was introduced in either Lion or Mountain Lion and some complain but personally I don't mind. It is a small precaution I guess to prevent those who are new to the Mac accidentally doing something in the Library and it is okay by me.

For me Mavericks has been totally stable. When I do put it on my Mac Pro the new way of allowing division of activities across two screens will be handy as my Mac Pro has two screens.

This is actually one nice thing that Mavericks restored: the OSX 10.9 Finder now has an option to toggle whether the Library folder is visible or not.

This really takes me back.

We didn't call it "OS" then, it was the "System".

Also, Apple actually frowned on the use of the word "Mac" they always referred to the model as "Macintosh".

The GUI of system 7 is so simple and comprehensible.

The scroll bar design still lives on today in FileMaker Pro 12.

Unfortunately it's the same as before: Apple's code that manages the recent file list for NWP is crashing. I don't think there's much we can do to help, and you'd be best served by contacting Apple about the problem.

As a workaround, you might again delete your NWP preference files (which store the recent file lists), relaunch NWP, open its preferences, and set the open recent limit file count to zero (it's an option near the bottom of the "General" pane). That should prevent Apple from recording and resolving recent files, which hopefully will avert the crash.
