Nomenclature: "smartt" and "curly" quotes

Post by greenmorpher »

Hello Martin

Under "Edit > Convert" you have "Smart Quotes"

BUT in Quickfix you speak of "Smart Punctuation (includes "curly" quotes)"

THEN in the Help, it refers to "Smart Quotes" except when it quotes the actual setting in Quickfix (page 292 -- Additional Quickfixes).

I feel the nomenclature should be standardized.

What does "Smart Punctuation" do apart from Smart Quotes? I have it turned on, usually, but I haven't noticed any other change. Or is it just the quote marks plus the single quote mark used to indicate missing letters as in, e.g. hasn't?

What about making that setting "Smart (curly) Quotes" ... or just "Smart Quotes"?

Cheers, Geoff

Try Spanish. When that option turned on, NW Pro uses the inverted glyphs for ! and ? at the top of sentence.

That's not "smart", Kino, that's normal in Spanish!!!

So okay, that answers part of that question -- the other part of it is why are the same things called by two different names? Let's have one name for them or a combination of the two names to clarify exactly what we are talking about.

PS -- I can't turn on Spanish. I have made my computer monolingual.
