PDF/A

Post by shmuel »

I need to save a file produced with NWP in any of the following formats:

PDF/A-2u
PDF/A-2b
PDF/A-1b
PDF/A-2a
PDF/A-1a

How can I do this?

The quick answer is that Nisus Writer Pro will give you whatever PDF format is generated by the system. We let macOS handle the final PDF data synthesis. If you don't see system options in the print/PDF dialog (or in Preview) for creating the kinds of data you need, then you'll have to look for other tools to do the job.

I have a vague recollection that maybe someone else asked this question in the past, also on the forum. But I wasn't able to find anything, sorry! Hopefully someone else will have some suggestions for you...

You can use this online PDF to PDF/A Converter:
https://www.pdftron.com/pdf-tools/pdfa-converter/
1. Select the type of PDF/A from the drop-down menu
2. Upload your PDF file.
3. Download PDF/A of the file.

Ah, this looks great, many thanks!

However, while the result is indeed a file that "claims compliance with the PDF/A standard", some basic formatting used in the RTF file (e.g. font choice, footnote line separator) do not come through.

Oh sorry I realise only now you recommend uploading the PDF file.

So what I did was: produce a PDF via "Open in Preview" within NWP, then upload it to https://www.pdftron.com/pdf-tools/pdfa-converter/, download the result, and compare it with the original file. It works!
