At this time there is no direct support for managing a large document across multiple files. Basically you'll have to configure the sections yourself, eg: setting the starting page number of the second document in your chain, etc.

If the graphic is inline then you can apply the "keep with next paragraph" option to the graphic and it will stay on the same page as the text following it. If you want to add a caption to a floating graphic then your only option is to add the caption as part of the graphic itself.

I would bet that you are having troubles because a smart/curly quote is not matched to a dumb/plain quote. When you type into the Find panel our QuickFix feature will smarten/curl your quotes for you. You can turn this feature off in our QuickFix preferences if you like. Or you can use the Undo menu...
This is some kind of bug and we'll look into it. I'm not sure why we're afflicted with the bug, since we use the standard Apple document framework (which includes provisions for saving documents). But we must be doing something to disrupt the normal behavior.
That is correct. The live word count also does not count text in footnotes (as others have noted). We understand that people would like the option to include these parts of the document in the word count.
