Re: Font problem after updating to OS 10.6.7
I opened Futura with FontLab demo. I think you mean Futura Medium coming with OS X. That font is an AAT TrueType font which is completely different from Futura Light PS Type 1 font the original poster is using. We cannot tell anything for sure about a font without having at hand the exactly same ve...

Re: Font problem after updating to OS 10.6.7
So, if a font is composited in its creation phase, how does this affect the final outcome? As far as the rendering engine in OS X or in applications (InDesign and some other applications have their own rendering engine) work fine, there should be no difference in the final outcome between decompose...

Re: Font problem after updating to OS 10.6.7
Though I don’t know why a foundry should rely on a composite for an exclamation mark, or question mark, to name a few. I do have Futura, two versions, both of them True Type. […] They don’t allow of any composite version of question marks or any other marks, as far as I see. No, no, what I mean by ...

Re: Font problem after updating to OS 10.6.7
As far as I have observed, the OS X 10.6.7 bug affects glyphs which are not defined directly. There are two ways to define glyphs indirectly: [1] composite glyphs, e.g. “à” as a composite of “a” and “`” with positions and X/Y scaling (I’m speaking of the internal strucuture of fonts, which has nothi...

Re: Font problem after updating to OS 10.6.7
It seems to occur only in Futura Light. I don’t have Futura Light. Perhaps is it an OpenType PostScript font (*.otf)? If so, the only cure would be to downgrade to 10.6.6. Fonts of that kind are badly broken in 10.6.7. I reproduced the problem discussed in Apple’s discussion board below with the It...

Re: Find colored text
If you want to find and select all texts in the same colour (manually applied, not defined in a style), put the insertion point somewhere in a text in that colour and choose ‘Select All’ from the pull-down menu (click on a coloured circle) in the status bar at the bottom of the document window. Sele...

Re: How to clear recently used fonts list?
I guess typing the command in terminal is longer than opening the plist file and deleting those redundant fonts. Unfortunately you cannot use a text editor to edit com.nisus.NisusWriter.plist manually, which is not a plain text file any more but a binary file in OS X 10.6.x at least. So, if you don...

Re: How to clear recently used fonts list?
thanks, not even by diving into the plist file.. :( As Martin explained, you can clear the list of last used fonts by deleting com.nisus.lastUsedFonts in com.nisus.NisusWriter.plist . You can do so by executing a terminal command or by running the following NWP macro. begin Perl `defaults delete co...

Re: ToolDrawer too small?
Something I can change in a plist file […]? If I’m not mistaken, there is no hidden option in NWP. I think it is their policy to make all features visible and accessible to all users. Is there any way to tell Nisus to only display the styles that are in use? I’m afraid you cannot. Me too, I’d like ...

Re: ToolDrawer too small?
Welcome to the forum! I don’t know if this fits your way of working with a word processor but you can tear off the palette by dragging it out of the drawer so that it becomes a floating palette. Then, you can enlarge it by dragging the tiny triangle at the right bottom of the palette. StylePalette.p...

Re: Bullet List Style Problem
The bug reproduced in NWP 1.4.1. It seems to affect only when you modify the bullet style in the style sheet. Bullets customized in the draft view using Lists palette work fine for me in the attached sample file. But I’m not very sure. I should not conclude by testing of tiny scope. list_20110304_rt...

Re: Reversing Character
As I've gotten older I'm finding I'm making this kind of mistake more often. Same here ;-( Or worse: it is getting harder and harder for me to detect typos. In the past, a similar problem was discussed at: http://www.nisus.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=2659 To sum up, if you want to swap a cha...

Re: Character Styles and Advanced Typographic Options
Perhaps the bug is in Core Text (I'm guessing that's what NWP uses), but I created a Pages document with OT superscripts in the first line and didn't see the same behavior. As far as I know Pages uses Core Text too, but maybe they tweaked Pages to get around some bugs in the APIs that haven't been ...

Re: Character Styles and Advanced Typographic Options
To set up a character style for an OpenType feature, 1. apply a font having that feature on a Character style’s sample text, 2. apply the feature on it from Typography panel, 3. remove the font. Character styles thus created are expected to work with all OpenType fonts (e.g. Adobe’s) supportin...

Re: Show invisibles and comments
I agree with you. Although Show Invisibles is a very important feature for me, that does not mean that I want to see all invisibles in everywhere . I’m always eager to see tab, LF, and no-break space but, personally and in the Find/Replace panel, any visual representation for any invisible is superf...
