Re: Please help me decide

Mark, thanks for your answer. I did notice when reading about Nisus and Mellel that what you called bibliographic software was important. Can you explain that to me? Is a biblio not just a reference to origins? If so, don't both programs allow that? I'm showing my ignorance here, but I don't unders...

Re: Please help me decide

I've done a lot of research for a good word-processor in the last few days and would like some of your opinions. From what I've read, Nisus is more user-friendly than Mellel, which some say has a steep learning curve, something I really don't need. Also, Nisus is said to work well with the Scrivene...

Re: Tables 1.5 with LinkBack feature

Now the new version of Tables (v 1.5) with LinkBack feature is available. Hans Schäppi So it is ... I've been using the betas since Daniel first released them and apart from a glitch in Beta 1, they have been absolutely stable for me. On the other hand, people, you must bear in mind that it is only...

Re: Removing Footer on Page 1 Only

Does anyone know how to remove the footer from page 1 and have it start on page 2? If you simply start with page 2, it still shows on page 1. Thanks. Patrice Put a "Section Break New Page" at the end of page 1, go to the sections palette and choose "Different Headers and Footers"...

Re: Document Could Not Be Opened

I keep getting this error with .doc files. Any ideas on how to fix. The error reads thusly: There were problems reading the document 'anyname.doc' that prevented us from opening it. If you are willing to send this file to Nisus Software, we will look into fixing the problem for a future release. Th...

Re: Preparing an exam with NWP

Generally, I use OmniOutliner (Pro) for preparing exam papers and tests. Actually, I keep a general OOP file of all the questions I think up as, in what I have to teach here in China, there are only so many questions you can ask anyway, and then I mark an appropriate number of them for export to RTF...

Re: Desired NWP 1.3 features

Truth be told, I use Bookends too. I think Bookends support would pacify the majority. Native support for one of them would be great. I have Mellel and it just collects digital dust. I can't bring myself to use it for many reasons. It has a place, just not on my computer. We can wait together hopin...

Re: Desired NWP 1.3 features

Maybe native support for Sente since I just realized that Pages 08 and 09 have it. Now the hard part comes, purchase Sente and use Pages 09 or wait it out on NWP. I am waiting for now, but the other side just got greener. I use Bookends with Scrivener and Nisus ... OK, as far as I can understand th...

Re: Problem with digits when open old Nisus Hebrew files

Just to make it clear.. Ruchama is a she.. :) But really, I still think that these problems are relatively defined and solvable, and I plead and urge nisus people to add something (or a seperate module) that will enable previous nisus people to import their files more easily. please.. Humble apolog...

Re: Problem with digits when open old Nisus Hebrew files

Ruchama put his finger on it, but didn't spell it out. Word, OpenOffice, NeoOffice, Mellel and InDesign all use proprietary text engines, as did Nisus Classic ... For good or ill, in creating Nisus Writer Express and then Pro, Nisus used a pretty much modified version of the Apple text engine, and t...

Re: Desired NWP 1.3 features

This will sound pretty shallow in comparison with other requests, but I'd really like Nisus to be made prettier. I find it to be such an ugly application to use - fantastically easy to use and equally useful, but it's not very nice to look at. De gustibus non est disputandum ... Des goûts et des co...

Re: character options keyboard shortcut

Don't forget you can use multi-character shortcuts in NWP. I have text colours set that way: Cmd-RR = red, Cmd-BB = black, Cmd-BL = blue, etc. It's often easier than having to set up gymnastic multi-modifiers, e.g. Shift-Ctrl-Cmd and a single letter.

Re: New release of "Tables" with LinkBack feature

According to their website, Tables 1.5 functions only as a LinkBack client; that is, you can paste something from LinkBack server apps into Tables, but not vice versa. Masaya That’s a drawback. It had been better if it was the other way around. Well that depends on what you want. I need it the way ...

Re: Customising Superscript and Subscript

A lot of the time it does come down to what Apple provides, but for superscript (and subscript) sizing and baseline adjustments it's entirely under our control. First we check if the font provides native superscripts, an advanced typography feature some fonts have (eg: Palatino). Only if that's not...

Re: Customising Superscript and Subscript

We'll have to wait for the lads to get back to work at Nisus tomorrow to see what they have to say. My betting is that they'll say that that's the way it is in Apple's text engine, so it then comes down to how willing they are to do yet more enhancements of the text engine, but it's my bet also tha...
