Hi Martin,
Dare we hope that there ought to be a "yet" between "not" and "import" ? :D

I was able to open those files before. Opening another app, saving as and reopening them in nisus is a good idea, but a lousy approach (not intending to insult you or anything :-) ). The app opened it in the past and should keep opening it. Ziv Don't worry, I'm not insulted ... it is a lousy way to...

Re: Doc files "not recognized" in NWE 2.7

I've got a similar problem with NWE on my Intel Mac Mini (Core Duo). When I try to open a .doc file using the File / Open in NWE, here's the message I get: "The format of the file 'sample.doc' is not recognized. Would you like to open it as plain text?" Very strange! It worked until recently; it mi...

Re: Language Switch on quit failing on Intel Macs

Language switching back to the system on quitting Nisus on intel machines is erratic to say the least. I have NWE installed on my G5 and when switching from say German to my native English(British) language setting when quitting NWE works a treat. However if I try the same trick ( with all the same...

Re: extract email addresses, Powerfind not working

PowerFind is not working for me, as described in the Nisus Writer Express Help. I am using Nisus 2.7, OS 10.4.8, on a G5 tower. I cannot duplicate the results of many of the PowerFind examples. In particular, all the examples using parentheses don't work for me. When I do any search, I get the mess...

Sort of. There's two components to Words "revision" tool. The one you are referring to is the one where every single change, addition, deletion, what have you is noted in the right hand column. You're right, it's annoying as all get out. My wife was sent a copy of an agreement that had been typed o...

I know Word comments are an oft-asked for feature, and you're correct, Word is the only one that does it. Boy are they easy to get used to. Actually Pages has the comment feature and it is compatible with Word, so I'd love to see that eventually show up in Nisus Writer (probably Pro) and then I cou...

There's a few other little oddities that Nisus does, or doesn't do that'll require some adjustment on my part. - Doesn't put the RTF or DOC extension in when I save. 90% of what I do ends up on an editors desk, and he has Word on a PC. Now, it's just something I need to remember to do, but usually ...

option+shift+ - = — True, but there are those who find the double-hyphen shortcut quicker and easier than having to press two modifier keys at the same time as typing the '-'. I used to when I had to use Weird for Windoze ... If you've suffered under Weird for Windoze, which doesn't have the good k...

Re: -- is never part of a word

Sorry, rmark, but these responses do not sufficiently address the issue, whether NWE handles—or fails to handle—the em dash. A program for writers should enable a writer to write and punctuate his text correctly. First, two hyphens (--) are lexically not part of any English word. One hyphen often i...

Yes, it does sound as if you've got problems. I'm using a 1st generation MBP, 2.16 Ghz with 1 Gig of RAM, so slightly faster than your MacBook. NWE normally loads very quickly, with the font display seeming to take up much of the time. I also have no problem whatsoever with it slowing down when left...

Re: ~/Documents/Nisus Documents/Backups

Then you must not move between machines that often, because one of the problems of not being able to allocate a Nisus Documents folder (especially on an external drive) is that, if you want to use this feature, you are stuck to your local machine unless you want do cumbersome copy/backup/synchronize...

Re: ~/Documents/Nisus Documents/Backups

I am particular about what goes into my ~/Documents directory, and what does not go there; that is a user's own untouchable territory, in my opinion, and I do not like that Nisus Writer Express continually adds Nisus Documents/Backups to my Documents directory. I am always bemused by people's objec...

Re: Pro

Consider also that widespread adoption of Word 2007 will take some considerable time. I exchange Word documents with university students (and a lot of faculty and staff) and the majority of them aren't even using Word XP. Couldn't agree more ... many of my colleagues are using versions (Chinese Win...

I am puzzled by this statement. What I need to work, is a word processor that does what I want and which does not cost so much. Anne, I am more than puzzled, I am utterly bemused! As Juliet would say, "What's in a name? ..." and to quote the bard again "... full of sound and fury and signifying not...
