Re: Unexpected modifications from/to Microsoft Word

Hi Charles: thanks for trying Nisus Writer! Unfortunately the short answer is that it's unlikely you can influence this behavior. There are no "fat-fingers" you can more nimbly maneuver to prevent this. These formatting irregularities are likely being introduced as you pass the file back and forth b...

Re: Save panel slow to appear

In general the save panel is under the control of the system. Nisus Writer is allowed to add some options to the panel, but ultimately the display and behavior of the panel is up to macOS and Apple. What version of macOS are you using? Did you recently upgrade your system?

Re: catalina and Nisus Pro

Here's another tip that can help you identify which images are using the old PICT format: 1. Open your document. 2. Use the menu File > Image Analysis 3. In the dialog that appears, click the arrow icon under the Document column: analysis.png You'll see a list of all images in your document. You can...

Re: catalina and Nisus Pro

Thanks for sharing a sample document. It confirms the problem is exactly as expected: your document is using old Mac PICT images. Please see our FAQ on PICT images on how you can identify that you are using PICT images. You'll need to replace your PICT image equations with a modern data format, like...

What are ligatures and what problems do they cause?

What is a ligature? All text in your word processing documents is a sequence of characters, one character after the other. Each character could be a letter, number, punctuation mark, or anything else defined by Unicode . As text is displayed on screen, the relevant font chooses how to draw the char...

Re: Join files macro - headers and footers

I'm sorry but I think that isn't currently possible. The desired macro would need to join your files using section breaks, so that each section can have distinct headers/footers. That is currently possible. What isn't possible is for the macro to copy the header/footer content from your source files...

Re: Noob Needs Help

Styles are definitely the way to go, if they suit your needs. That's going to be much better than a macro. I'm glad you found a solution for your workflow.

Re: Noob Needs Help

That's a great question, and a good way to introduce the difference between regular menu commands and other macro language features. As you've already discovered, macros can easily make use of regular menus via a menu title or path. That's how "Select Paragraph" works, and it's how other simple form...

Can you please send us an example file? I'd like to see exactly what is wrong. You can post a file here if you don't mind it being public, or you can send us one privately via the menu Help > Send Feedback. Thanks!

Re: multi notes per line/space

the horizontal space between notes, where "One note per line" has been unchecked, is too big. Aesthetically unappealing, it makes this feature now unusable. This was different in Nisus 2, if I remember right. You remember correctly: this behavior was different in version 2. However, I don't think t...

Re: catalina and Nisus Pro

It sounds like your equations are very likely to be images using the old PICT data format. That's a legacy image format that has fallen into disrepair as new macOS versions have been released. Please see our FAQ entry about PICT images , but the short answer is that you should replace your images wi...

Re: multi notes per line/space

I'm afraid there's no direct way to control the space between such footnotes, if you have enabled the option to show multiple footnotes on a single line. Currently those footnotes always have the same amount of space between them. If you want more space between such footnotes you'll need to manually...

Re: Page break associated with style

That's exactly right, this feature was added in version 3. Aside from the aforementioned palette, you'll also find options for this on the main menu Format > Paragraph . There are two related options: • Ensure Page Break Before Paragraph • Force Page Break Before Paragraph The latter option to "forc...

Re: Problem in saving new files

That sounds like a pain Jeff, sorry! One quick question: what is the exact error alert when you now try to save the new documents? Are you seeing that same alert about formatting being discarded? Or an alert about permission problems? If it's the latter, do the permissions refer to the Nisus New Fil...
