Re: Re: Overrides

I'm glad you got it working- all the same, I'd like to clarify exactly how the reference styles work. When you switch into the stylesheet, coming from the main document where a footnote reference was selected, two styles will be shown and selected. The first is the Note style, by default called &qu...

Overrides

Martin, it sounds as though you added a step: you deselected the Footnote style in Style Sheet view before completing my step 2). In that case, you'll be changing both sets of reference numbers (i.e. both in the text and in the notes themselves), removing superscript from all of them. My goal was to...

Another very bad bug

One of the better features of NWP is its Full Screen mode; it's what first attracted me to the application. However, it's useless to me without support for footnotes.

Me too

Glad I found this thread. Those asterisks were driving me crazy. This is an egregious bug. The mere act of saving and closing while the cursor happens to be resting within the footnotes will introduce an extraneous character! Since I work with lots of footnotes, some of which can be quite lengthy, t...

Or try this

The more I play with footnotes, the more bugs I find. Here's another sequence to try: 1) Select just the number of a superscript footnote reference within the footnotes and click on View Style. 2) Click on the Superscript button in the Character Palette to deselect it. You'll find that all the footn...

Try this

no- you are wrong (i think) - you can change styles in footnotes. but you should not open a new style but the existing style of your notes. you should click on view style while standing in the notes- and then make your changes. (naturally- you may need to select all notes to apply changes to all of...

Reformatting existing footnote references

One of the great flaws of MS Word is its inability to have the format of the footnote references be different in the notes from what it is in the main text. For example, it is impossible to have--as many style guidelines require--superscript references in the main text while references in the notes ...

Results from further testing

I subsequently tried the same steps in a document that exceeds a single page. It would appear that NWP is zapping the footnote frame from the first page of the document after receiving the command to "Remove Attributes except Styles". If there is only one page in the document, then the foo...

Disappearing footnotes, surely a bug

This behavior of NWP must be some kind of bug. If I click within a frame of footnotes, select all, and then choose the option to "Remove Attributes except Styles" from the Styles palette, then all of the footnotes instantly vanish. The only way to get them back seems to be to click on a li...

Good workaround, thanks

I actually had not thought of that workaround. It's less than elegant as a solution, but should be suitable for my needs. I don't see a feature request thread for NWP, so please consider this a request for some way to toggle the highlighting on and off.

Thanks

I suppose this missing feature is not a deal-breaker for me, but it really ought to be included. I hope it appears in the next revision.

Thanks

A surprising omission from the app's features. Thanks for the suggested workaround. I had actually tried to create a table with a single horizontal border and was unable to get it to work. I'll try again. [edit: I finally figured out how the table border options work and achieved the desired effect....

I'm guessing no

I suppose you would need to be able to attach character styles to cross-reference instances automatically. That would be a nice feature, but it doesn't seem to exist in NWP, as far as I can tell. So you're probably stuck with manually applying a character style to those instances.

Paragraph rules?

Is there any way to add a rule (i.e. a horizontal line) below a paragraph?

Hide highlights?

Is there any way to turn text highlighting on and off without losing the highlighting? I could get some great use out of this feature, but would like to be able to hide the highlighting (which is distracting) and then bring it back at will when I'm ready to deal with the highlighted text. I see myse...
