Re: Sample-Files?

I replied, but it's not appearing. Macros are not necessarily needed. If you have a document you want to appear three different ways, have three style sets each with the same style names. Define the styles in those three sets differently according to your needs. In View->Styles, use Import to load a...

Re: Sample-Files?

Hopefully this isn't a double post. I got called away at just the wrong time earlier today. I agree, sample files would be nice. The user manual as a native Nisus RTF file would be great. In the meantime, use the Nisus user manual as a reference. Exercise one feature at a time. It won't take long b...

Re: vanishing text, corrupt file

Maybe copy the file and open with another RTF editor. TextEdit, perhaps.

Does that reveal anything?

Re: Linking documents to a “style collection” — Is it possible?

This is very lightly tested. If I load a Nisus document and run this macro, it replaces existing styles with my Novel style library. If your style sets all have the same style names, then you could create one "golden" copy of your styles. Open each of your documents in turn and this will s...

Re: Absolutely frustrating behaviour of pictures and text boxes

Now that I think about it, I have had to do some coaxing in some cases. The pictures were very large, I remember that much. Later today I'll experiment some more. Hello Amontillado, thanks for your suggestions! I already know and use these different text wraps and other options regularly. They just ...

Re: Absolutely frustrating behaviour of pictures and text boxes

What version of the MacOS are you running? At this point, that's my guess as to why you see that behavior and I don't.

Edited to add:

And I agree, that sounds most frustrating! My guess, there's a cure.

Re: Absolutely frustrating behaviour of pictures and text boxes

I can't duplicate that bug. I'm on Mac 12.6.2 because I don't have a new Mac yet. Nisus version is 3.3 G'day, ArchDuke et al I did some testing for you. There could be a bug (or several) here. Insert an image at the beginning of a paragraph (not the first) in a "Lorem ipsum" document. Plac...

Re: Absolutely frustrating behaviour of pictures and text boxes

Just below the placement option there is an array of six options for text wrapping. They become available if "floats with paragraph" or "floats on page" is selected. The middle one on the top row of wrap options should be the only one to allow text behind your image. Have you tri...

Re: Error message using Nisus on a Synology NAS

Chronosync user, here. I prefer it to cloud syncing.

You can probably achieve the same results with the Mac's rsync command and a shell script in Terminal.

I went for "lazy" and got Chronosync.

Re: Tutor/help

By the way, I'm not averse to the idea of setting up a Zoom call to help a fellow writer. The problem is I'm so darn busy it's hard to schedule anything - but if things just don't seem to work out, I'll help. Nisus is a wonderful product, and it is particularly good at Styles. I can't think of anoth...

Re: Tutor/help

Hi, Thanks for the kind reply. For some reason, I'm having difficulty wrapping my head around using the Style Sheets. Style sheets are where styles are stored. A style, which is arguably kind of a funny name, is a collection of text attributes. Let's say a character style is called ImportantStuff a...

Re: Internal 'sidebar'

Tables can do that, too. I sometimes use a one column, two row table for a sidebar picture with a caption. You can also put an image in a text box, which is nice.

Re: Tutor/help

Wouldn't it be better to go through questions here? What are your questions? The reason I use Nisus is because of the world-class way it handles styles. Very, very, cool and without entangling side effects. Hierarchical, so one style can enhance another. I wish it had page styles, but other than tha...

Re: Is this TOC flavor possible to achieve?

To Amontillado's point. Once you have the TOC entries on a line, rebuilding the TOC using the "page numbers only" option will not work correctly. Instead you should always rebuild using the "Update all content" option and then reformat. Which is why you should try the macro. I m...
